Session Participants:
Time: 12:30pm to 2:00pm
Place: Green house

Session Notes: To a large extent, USA foreign policy is dictated by major American corporations. These corporations influence congress and the white house to conduct foreign policy in such a way as to allow these businesses to create maximum profit for investors and obtain low cost goods to benefit consumers.

Unfortunately, when our corporations pursue these goals, it is often a case of the ends justifying the means - with the means employed being hurtful to people of foreign countries. As consumers, when we buy from these corporations, we become part of the problem.

Probably the most effective path to creating a more peaceful and people friendly foreign policy will be to educate American citizens on what the current USA foreign policy consists of and how it is bringing hurt to people and societies all around the globe. It is important for us to show people how the federal government is out of integrity in the way in which it conducts American foreign policy.

One excellent means of educating people is through the radio and TV show Democracy Now. Activists can petition in their local area to have this program brought in. Recently this program was brought to the North Hampton, MA area and a change in the attitudes of local people has been observed.

An important part of the educational process will be to address the fear that many Americans feel after 9-11. We also need to show people that the excessive American lifestyle is at the root of the negative US foreign. We need to set an example and teach classes on simple living. Show people how used clothing can be adequate, how they can buy locally grown meat and produce, and how locally grown food can be stored through canning and the use of a root cellar,

We can use the Internet to link together various peace grouups that are currently working independently. We need to help people see that they can make a difference.

I agree that people need to see the connection between US foregin policy and our national economic policies. I suggest that at the same time we identify these relationships, we offer a compelling vision of how we can have an economy that is based on undeniable (for sure!) physical laws, as demonstrated by Sustainable Step. In so doing, we demonstrate and lead people towards a well-lit path of action, not just wring our hands. Each and every one of us shares an habitual use of plastic and technology that has allowed our self-appointed representatives to pursue lines of credit that unfortunately keep our economy running smoothly for some, while certainly bankrupting future generations, if not our's. We need to own up to it ourselves, and find solutions, and model behaviours associated with the new paradigm. Once these behaviors are viewed as "right" thinking, people may shift to make money off of this new way of being. Then it filters up.
Do you find this valuable?
