Session Participants:Chuc, Marci, Greg, Shiva, Megan, Charles, Barb
Time: 2pm
Place:Sirius Upstairs Space C

Session Notes:
1. Discussed living/building passive solar, super-insulated house, desire for "Hobbit House." 3 cords of wood to heat quite warmly. Convention building X 2 (double width). Also can do 2X6/foam layer/2X4 & 23" of insulation in roof.

2. Desire to create space/community centered around SOMETHING. What is the core of the community? Want to reduce transportation needs, have lots of fun & parties, an intentional (pre-existing) neighborhood is cool. People in US largely unready for communal living although this might be easier for younger people who are not as indoctrinated into dominant culture of independence and individual sufficiency. Also want to work together to prepare for impending crisis/collapse of society as it now is.

3. Limitations of renting -- needing permission of landlord, can't make sustainable changes (e.g., solar panels). Like lack of isolation of city but want to live in country too.

4. Sometimes communities aren't intentional enough -- want to have a directed purpose and be clear about work that needs to be done and how it will be divided equitably. With current realty market, can build things right in town so still requires relatively high degree of (petroleum-based) transportation.

5. Desire to expand beyond meeting community needs for ones self and moving towards education. Empowering people to do this on their own by having visioning and teaching processes.

6. Importance of physical proximity for communities -- need to see people in all aspects of their lives not just during get=togethers when they are "up." Daily contact is key and this is basis for safety net for impending collapse. Physical proximity is also key for understanding one another : need face-toface communication to fully understand emotions behind communicated ideas.

7. Like the challenge of lving with people who hold different ideas. Also like sharing some element of vision. Traditions within community (blessing of open, generous person) such as weekly potluck where everyone is invited and it is "known" that this will always be ongoing.

8. Importance of balancing life within a community and "outside" life == don't necessarily want all individual or community needs met by a single community.
